About the Organization

“Karya is the world’s first data cooperative to bring dignified, digital work to economically disadvantaged Indians, giving them a pathway out of poverty. They empower individuals and communities with fair economic opportunities completing high-quality data annotation services for AI/ML clients. Karya believes that it is every individual’s right to take ownership of their financial future and sustainability through fairly-compensated work. The key to their livelihoods approach is in Karya’s Public Data License, a novel licensing agreement that ensures data generators are the true and perpetual owners of their data. This ensures a virtuous cycle of digital income into Karya worker communities

In the past 12 months of operations, workers on the Karya platform have completed 20 million digital tasks, resulting in over INR 3 crores in payment to 20,000 individuals. “
