Shiksharth Trust
Enabling Positive Childhood Experience for every child irrespective of any adversity and conflict
“Shiksharth is a not-for-profit organisation with the belief that irrespective of ideological conflict and geographical adversity every child deserves a Positive Childhood Experience (PCE) that leads to experiencing compassion, peace and quality education to grow as a constructively engaged learned citizen. It is on a mission to enable access to Contextually relevant Positive Childhood Experiences by 2028 for 1 million children coming from spaces of conflict and adverse geography through co-creation and collective action of organisations working in similar contexts.
Shiksharth transforms schools and communities as spaces ensuring Contextual Positive Childhood Experiences (PCE) for children coming from spaces of conflict and adverse geography, by strengthening contextual learning opportunities, well-being, community participation and system support in an integrated approach.
Shiksharth has been working in central India (Bastar region, Chhattisgarh) since 2015 which is severely affected by armed conflict because of left-wing extremism (commonly known as Naxal conflict). In the last 7 years, Shiksharth has served 50,000+ children, 160+ schools, 35 Gram Panchayats and 300+ teachers in the region leading to the re-opening of 97 destroyed schools, 6,000+ out-of-school children coming back to school, and 90% growth in learning outcomes (using contextual pedagogy solutions). As a response to school closure because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Shiksharth’s offline learning solutions ensured 350,000 children continued to learn across 14 states through 30+ partners.
Currently, Shiksharth is operational in 140+ schools and community centres in the region, serving 8,000+ children in elementary classrooms out of which 97 schools are re-opened schools which were earlier destroyed because of armed conflict. “
