About the Organization

“Waatavaran aims to take tangible actions to protect the planet and its vulnerable communities. They believe in nurturing the symbiotic relationship that co-exists between humans and nature to create a climate just habitable environment for everyone. Their vision is a commitment towards the conservation of forest land while securing the identity, dignity and livelihoods of the tribal community. To achieve this, their mission is to secure the land ownership of 1 million Aadivasis’ by 2026 through the use of technology, community leadership, government collaboration and civil society alliances.

Waatavaran has impacted 1 million people individually about Air Quality and Clean Mobility. Capacities of 2,000+ tribal families have been built on Forest Rights, its laws and various provisions. This has led to filing Individual Forest Rights Claims of more than 2,000+ families of Raigad district and 16000+ saplings planted in the villages of Raigad district for forest rejuvenation.”

Bhagwan Kesbhat %designation% Mr. Bhagwan Kesbhat has 20+ years of professional experience in program management and policy advocacy. Previously he was a Sr. Program Manager on Decentralized Watershed Management at Paani Foundation. He has tremendously worked where he networked with political leadership, civil society organizations, water expert and academician, leaders of farmer organization, policy advocacy with political leaders, legislators and parliamentarians in Maharashtra. And involving experimental new methods of engagement across mobile and fact finding, documenting from zero ground.
Sunil Dahiya %designation% Mr. Sunil Dahiya has over 10 years of experience as a strategist and research analyst on environmental issues. He led the energy and air pollution campaigns at Greenpeace India which resulted in the development of larger civil society momentum and clean air collective (with other groups working on air pollution issues in India), ultimately making sure that India has its first-ever National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). Sunil has also been the leading expert and voice on the implementation of emission standards for coal-based power plants in India. His expertise is research, policy support and coalition development on the issues of the energy transition, climate change, air pollution, and community rights, etc. He has also authored multiple reports and international research papers on air pollution and energy issues.
